Celebrating World Water Day 2025 in Helsinki: IDEATION Project Showcased in Helsinki, Finland
On March 21, the global community came together to mark World Water Day 2025, with a dedicated event in Helsinki hosted by Water Europe and CETAQUA, spotlighting innovative solutions to address the world’s most pressing water challenges. This year’s theme, “Glacier Preservation,” highlights the urgent need to protect frozen water sources in the face of climate change and increasing pressure on water systems.
The IDEATION project was prominently featured during the event, with project representatives Eloisa Vargiu and Franco Crivello presenting key results and milestones achieved in the first 10 months of the initiative. IDEATION, an EU-funded project, is developing digital tools and methodologies to improve water governance and enable smarter, more sustainable water management practices.
A highlight of the event was an interactive session led by Isabella Gervasio and Alessandro Argo, who, together with Vargiu and Crivello, facilitated a dynamic activity exploring how Digital Twins can enhance monitoring, prediction, and management of snow, ice, and lake ecosystems. These environments are particularly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, and digital technologies are proving to be powerful tools in understanding and protecting them.
Jari Silander played a key role in coordinating the activity, helping to create an engaging and insightful experience for participants.
