Data Week 2025: IDEATION Partners Will Discussion Digital Twins for Oceans, Waters & Cities
IDEATION Project Coordinator, Eloisa Vargiu (Cetaqua – Water Technology Centre), will be co-chairing a key session at the upcoming Data Week 2025. The session, titled “Digital Twins for Ocean, Waters and Cities,” is set for Wednesday, 28 May 2025, from 13:30 to 14:30 EEST in Athens, Greece, at the OTE Group of Companies (HTO).
Eloisa Vargiu expressed her anticipation, stating, “Ready for another great #DataWeek? Looking forward to meet you in Athens! On 28th at 13:30, we’ll talk about Digital Twin for Ocean, Waters, and Cities, don’t miss our session! I’ll be honoured to chair this session.”
Ms. Vargiu will co-chair alongside Gerasimos Antzoulatos (Centre for Research & Technology Hellas – CERTH) and Roberto Di Bernardo (Engineering Group). The session will feature distinguished speakers: Arne Jørgen Berre (SINTEF, SEADITO), Konstantina Papachristopoulou (Netcompany-Intrasoft, Iliad – Digital Twins of the Ocean), and Daniel Thilo Schroeder (AquaINFRA).
The discussion aims to address the pivotal role of Digital Twins (DT) in restoring oceans and waters and supporting cities in their climate-neutrality commitments. It will highlight how the deployment of EU Common Data Spaces can facilitate the adoption of DT and AI technologies in these critical sectors. The session will draw on experiences from influential projects including SEADITO, Iliad – Digital Twins of the Ocean, IDEATION, AquaINFRA, and URBREATH Horizon Europe Project.
A key highlight will be the EU Digital Twin Ocean (DTO), a flagship initiative under the EU’s Green Deal and Digital Strategy, which serves as a digital replica of the ocean to simulate and predict its behavior, tackling challenges such as climate change, marine pollution, and biodiversity loss.
Key Takeaways for Participants:
-
Gain insights into real-world applications of DTs for ocean and water restoration and climate resilience.
-
Explore strategies for scaling climate action using Digital Twin technology.
-
Understand results from the EU Missions “Restore our Ocean and Waters” and “Implementation of the Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities.”
-
Identify opportunities for strengthening collaboration and establishing partnerships among stakeholders.
-
Contribute to developing recommendations for policymakers on fostering DT adoption and open data integration.
