IDEATION Consortium Finalises Strategic Roadmap at Final Project Board Meeting

Following the success of the Final Multi-Stakeholder Forum, the IDEATION consortium convened on April 17th for its fifth and final Project Board Meeting. This meeting marked the technical culmination of the project, where partners finalized the tasks, milestones, and strategic results designed to accelerate the digitalization of inland water management across Europe.

During the intensive sessions, the consortium reviewed the major achievements from the last period, focusing on the transition from research to real-world application. A central highlight of the day was the presentation of the project’s strategic legacy, including a comprehensive SWOT analysis and the finalization of the IDEATION Roadmap. These documents provide a clear path forward for stakeholders, offering technical governance recommendations and practical simulations to help cities and regions navigate the complexities of Digital Twin implementation.

A significant technical milestone was reached through the validation of several Proofs of Concept (PoCs). These PoCs demonstrated successful interoperability with major European data initiatives, including Destination Earth (DestinE) and the European Digital Twin Ocean (EDITO). By showcasing how inland water data—from coastal regions to snow and ice monitoring—can be integrated into these large-scale ecosystems, IDEATION has proven that technical interoperability is no longer a hurdle but a functional reality.

As the project enters its final reporting phase, the consortium also solidified its Exploitation Plan and Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) strategies. These measures ensure that the Key Exploitable Results, such as the OpenKIWAS platform and the reference architecture for AI-algorithm validation, remain accessible to the water sector.
