IDEATION Project Enters Final Sprint: Partners Convene in Lecce to Provide Key Updates
With only six months remaining on the project timeline, the IDEATION consortium gathered in Lecce, Italy, for the 4th Project Board meeting. Hosted by the Engineering Group at their premises in the Ecotekne University Campus, the two-day event (10-11 December) served as a strategic launchpad for the final phase of the project.
The meeting provided a crucial platform for partners to review the achievements of the last semester (M13-M18) and, more importantly, to align on the roadmap for the remaining months. While virtual collaboration remains strong within the consortium, the in-person interaction in Lecce allowed for deeper brainstorming and faster consensus on complex technical issues.
Key Technical Highlights
The agenda was packed with intensive workshops and updates. Key discussions focused on:
-
Interoperability: A major workshop was dedicated to proving IDEATION’s interoperability with the Mission DTO (Digital Twin of the Ocean) and Destination Earth (DestinE), ensuring the project aligns with broader EU digital initiatives.
-
Architecture & AI: Partners reviewed the near-final Reference Architecture and the advancements in OpenKIWAS, including a demo of the Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) capabilities.
-
Governance & Impact: The team finalized plans for the project’s technological core assessment, SWOT analysis, and the upcoming roadmap for water-smart economy recommendations.
We extend a special thank you to the Engineering Group, and specifically to Caterina Sarno and Simone De Rossi, for their outstanding organization and warm hospitality. Their support ensured a productive environment where ideas could flourish.
As IDEATION moves into its final semester, the consortium is more united than ever in its mission to deliver a robust framework for the next generation of Digital Twins for inland waters. Stay tuned for our final results and recommendations in 2026.
